WPU’s Accelerated RN to BSN Now Available Online

March 1, 2021

William Peace University announces exciting updates to its RN to BSN Accelerated Degree Program through planned expanded partnerships, increased enrollment options and reduced tuition rates in order to better support working healthcare professionals and strengthen its impact in the region.

Launched in 2019 as the only such program in the Triangle, WPU’s RN to BSN program now provides options for students to enroll in either a 100 percent online class schedule or a hybrid schedule of online and in-person classes, providing greater flexibility to working professionals.

Students can now choose the option best suited to their lifestyle and available time commitment, easing the barrier to entry for registered nurses interested in earning a bachelor’s degree. With the allowed transfer of up to 90 credits, some students can complete their degree in as little as 12 months.

Additionally, WPU recently reduced tuition rates for the program. RNs who are employees at partner organizations can now obtain their degree for as little as $6,000.

Currently, WPU partners with WakeMed Hospital, UNC Rex Healthcare and UNC Physicians Network, and aims to expand its partnerships to include community colleges and other healthcare practices.

Dr. Erica Jastrow, Assistant Professor of Nursing and Program Director for the RN to BSN program, came on board in January to lead the partnership development.

“We’re excited to expand our partnerships at WPU so more employees and students can develop their careers through our degree program,” Jastrow said. “It’s becoming more and more essential for registered nurses to have their bachelor’s degree to expand their job options, achieve promotions and generally advance their role in the healthcare industry.”

“It’s becoming more and more essential for registered nurses to have their bachelor’s degree to expand their job options, achieve promotions and generally advance their role in the healthcare industry.”

In fact, in 2010, the Institute of Medicine issued a mandate calling for 80 percent of the nursing workforce to hold at least a bachelor’s degree by 2020. And according to data from the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN), 42 percent of hospitals and other healthcare settings are requiring new hires to have a bachelor’s degree in nursing, and 83 percent express a strong preference for BSN-educated nurses.

The results are there: AACN’s job placement data stated that 94 percent of BSN graduates were placed in a job within four to six months following graduation.

Beyond employers’ preference, registered nurses with a BSN also have considerably higher earning potential, with the median income for BSN graduates in North Carolina hitting around $66,000 annually, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Not only will RN to BSN graduates have greater opportunities in their careers, as students they will benefit from the unparalleled experience of a Pacer education. WPU students enjoy a high-touch approach to learning, complete with one-to-one advising and coaching, small class sizes, dedicated relationships with expert faculty and continuous support throughout their time at the University.

“No one is just a number at William Peace University,” said Brian C. Ralph, Ph.D., President of William Peace University. “We hope the changes to our RN to BSN program further enhance the unique opportunity for registered nurses to achieve a quality education focused on professional growth and excellence in patient care.”
