William Peace University students learn valuable skills in Professional Development courses.

Graduates of the simulation and game design (SGD) program at William Peace University have found success in the “serious” or applied games space, thanks to a successful internship-to-hire partnership with Horizon Productions. A NC-based media production company that specializes in branded content, high-end video production, animation, and immersive AR/VR experiences, Horizon first connected with Peace students in 2018. Chief Digital Officer Jason Cooper leads Horizon’s interactive and immersive work and has played a central role in building the company’s partnership with Peace. The relationship began after a conversation with Peace leadership and a classroom visit to speak with students about emerging immersive technologies. What stood out immediately to Cooper, now a member of Peace’s Board of Trustees, was the students’ enthusiasm for applying game technology to real-world problems and their strong soft skills. Since then, Horizon has hired multiple Peace interns and graduates, many of whom have grown into full-time roles within the company. Cooper notes that while Peace students arrive with solid technical foundations, their well-roundedness is the real differentiator. “We’ve had interns from other places,” he said. “But it’s the soft skills.
