2021 MLK Day of Service

The Fierce Urgency of Now: Dream, Believe, Act

Join the Pacer community as we gather together to remember and honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. In an effort to provide a safe and engaging event, we are offering multiple hybrid events that you can take part in. Registration is required for participation and closes on January 11th. Registration can be completed here. There will also be an opportunity for same day registration but spots and supplies are limited and not guaranteed. We will also be highlighting various service organizations and providing information about the history of the MLK Day of Service so be sure to follow us on Instagram @wpustudentlife.

The schedule of events is below:

Unity Walk 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM

-Join Dr. Carter and a student speaker as they kick off the day and lead us in a walk around campus to reflect on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s dream and honor our commitment to our community.
-This event will take place in-person and will also be streamed on instagram live on @wpustudentlife.

Alumni Panel 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM

-Join a group of alumni as they discuss supporting their community during COVID-19 and the ways that WPU has prepared them for being active citizens.
-This event will take place on zoom but there will also be in-person watch parties.
-Lunch will be provided at the in-person watch parties.

Service Stations 2:00 PM – 3:30 PM

-Join the Pacer community as we participate in a variety of service opportunities.
-Service stations include making masks for The Women’s Center, making dog toys for Second Chance Pet Adoptions, making cards and art for Transitions Life Care, and making family essentials kits for Juniper Level Missionary Baptist Church.
-You can participate in this event in-person, you can pick up service supplies on campus or at Village Green and participate at home, or you can participate in service independently.
-Service Supplies will be available for pick up on campus in Main Parlor and at Village Green in the clubhouse.
-If you participate at home or independently, please be sure to post a photo and tag us @wpustudentlife

Selma Movie Showing w/ the Black Student Union 7:00 PM -10:00 PM

-Join members of the Black Student Union for a virtual showing of the movie Selma followed by a discussion.
-This event will only be taking place virtually.
