WPU Announces Fall 2020 Start Dates
William Peace University’s (WPU) senior leadership and Fall Planning teams have been meeting regularly to prepare to return to campus in August. In order to create an on-campus, in-person experience with additional health and safety measures that protect students, faculty, staff and guests, the University has determined the following schedules:
- Traditional undergraduate students will resume on-campus classes on Wednesday, Aug. 19 (our originally scheduled date). To accelerate the semester with everyone’s health and safety in mind, the previously scheduled Fall Break (Oct. 1-2) will be replaced with instruction days. Face-to-face instruction will end on Tuesday, Nov. 24, prior to Thanksgiving break, with the last day of classes taking place remotely on Monday, Nov. 30. Final exams and/or projects will be completed remotely Thursday, Dec. 3 through Wednesday, Dec. 9.
- For our School for Professional Studies (SPS) students, the fall term will begin on Monday, Aug. 24 (Session I), with Session II beginning on Monday, Oct. 12. The SPS Thanksgiving Break will still be observed Monday, Nov. 23 through Friday, Nov. 27. While the vast majority of SPS courses are always online, select in-person SPS courses will also shift to virtual instruction on Monday, Nov. 30. Session I will conclude on Saturday, Oct. 10, with Session II ending on Saturday, Dec. 5.
Our decision to end on-campus instruction ahead of Thanksgiving was made with the wellbeing of our students, faculty, staff and greater community at the forefront. Leading with excellence and integrity, we will continue to follow the guidance of the CDC, the State of North Carolina, and Wake County. Just as Governor Cooper created a three-phase plan for reopening the State, our approach to reopening WPU is both methodical and data-driven.
Furthermore, we are prepared with contingency scenarios that all will reflect our mentoring and immersive learning philosophy, should the threat of COVID-19 impact our current plans. Additional details about WPU’s fall semester will be forthcoming. Meanwhile, for more information and frequently asked questions, visit www.peace.edu/covid-19-info-center.
