WPU to Postpone 2020 Commencement Ceremony
William Peace University has made the difficult decision to postpone the 2020 Commencement Ceremony scheduled for May 2, 2020. We are also postponing the Baccalaureate Service that was scheduled for May 1, 2020. No future dates have yet been selected for these events.
“I am beyond heart-broken for the Class of 2020. They are such a high-achieving, fun, driven and diverse group of students and they deserve to be celebrated – and will be celebrated. Unfortunately, the celebration has to be postponed to ensure the health and safety of all involved and to support the March 16, 2020 CDC published guidelines.”
Because of the rapidly changing environment, VP of Academic Affairs, Dr. Charles Duncan, states, “The University is going to delay determining a potential new date for the celebration honoring the William Peace University Class of 2020. Additional information will be provided as decisions are made. We are doing everything possible to encourage our students through this time.”
Across the globe, many institutions and organizations are facing similar challenges and these difficult decisions are based on the health and wellbeing of all. The University encourages everyone to remain flexible and adaptive to modifications necessary to mitigate the spread of this pandemic. President Ralph stated: “William Peace University is a community of strength, innovation and support—we foster and nurture success for our students. Keep this collective energy and sense of community alive and we will get through this”
WPU student body president, Deja Gainey, is encouraging all Pacers to keep their ‘peace during the coronavirus pandemic,’ and adds, “We’re going to finish strong regardless of these obstacles. The Peace community is really tight knit. We’re going to get through this together.”
