Commencement Day FAQs

What time does Main Lawn open?

Class of 2020*: Main Lawn will open on Friday, May 7th at 3:00 p.m.

Class of 2021*: Main Lawn will open on Saturday, May 8th at 7:00 a.m for the 9:30 a.m. ceremony and 2:00 p.m. for the 3:30 p.m. ceremony.

*Student graduates will be allowed to invite four ticketed guests and all guests will be required to have a ticket to attend the ceremonies (no exceptions).

Will refreshments be provided?

Complimentary water will be available in various locations around the Lawn.

Where do graduating students line up for the processional?

Graduates should assemble in full ironed regalia (cap and gown, tassel and hood) one hour prior to the ceremony in Main Parking Lot.

  • Class of 2020: Gather at 4:00 p.m. in Main Parking Lot
  • Class of 2021 9:30 am Ceremony:  Gather at 8:30 a.m. in Main Parking Lot
  • Class of 2021 3:30 pm Ceremony:  Gather at 2:30 p.m. in Main Parking Lot

Does the University make accommodations for guests with disabilities?

Yes. Special Needs parking spaces will be available in the 15 East Peace street Main parking lot. Please contact the Office of Disability Services for these special requests: MAJohn@peace.edu.

Where am I allowed to park on campus on Commencement Day?

On-Campus parking will be limited and on a first come, first serve basis.  Most guests will be directed to City of Raleigh parking lots on S. Salisbury Street.  Shuttle service is available from the city lots to campus. Parking in Seaboard Station is prohibited.

How long is the Commencement ceremony?

Due to COVID-19, each ceremony will be a condensed version of our regular commencement program.  We expect each ceremony to last under one hour.

Will there be a professional photographing graduates on stage?

A professional from Photo Specialties will photograph each graduate as he or she crosses the stage during commencement. Photo Specialties will send free color proofs and ordering instructions to each graduate’s email and permanent mailing address.  Please note that it could take 6 – 8 weeks to receive your proofs from Photo Specialists. If graduates do not receive this link or need additional information about ordering photos, they should contact Photo Specialties at info@photospecialties.com or 919.967.9576.

Can guests bring cameras? 

Yes, but for their safety and for the courtesy of others, guests will be required to remain in their seats during the ceremony to ensure appropriate social distancing is followed.

Will there be a live stream of Commencement?

For guests who are unable to attend Commencement, you can view WPU’s live stream, which will be available through your desktop computer, laptop, tablet, or mobile device. Links and additional information to follow.
