  • Classes are based on current, research-based teaching practices.
  • All Peace teacher licensure students work with an advisor who is well-versed in the education program and understands the needs and trends within the profession.
  • All Peace faculty have been classroom teachers! They are dedicated to your success. To them, you are not just a name. They know your face, and your goals, and want to help you succeed.

Teacher Licensure Courses

Some of our signature teacher licensure courses include:

Foundations of Literacy – This course provides a scientifically-based foundation on reading research needed to understand the fundamental principles and concepts of the structure of language with a focus on phonological awareness, phonics, alphabetic principles, and oral language.

Culturally Responsive Teaching – Candidates will learn how teachers develop meaningful relationships with students, how teachers learn from and about a school and local community, how teachers develop and implement culturally responsive classroom management and pedagogy, and how teachers develop expectations for students that maximize their capacity. Candidates will participate in immersive learning experiences that immerse them in the various cultures in local schools. Candidates will visit schools and sites that represent the various cultures and traditions of the residents of North Carolina.

Professional Teaching Seminar – This course helps teacher candidates develop the skills to become more effective teachers in the classroom. They will be able to identify strengths and areas for improvement in their practice. Students will continually learn how to refine their teaching practices through analysis and reflection of their teaching, before, during, and after teaching. Students will reflect on experiences in their classrooms through discussion and formal reflections throughout the semester.
