On a picture-perfect afternoon, students gathered at various places on campus and proudly displayed their hard work.
The annual Student Showcase was a day when students presented their projects, and talents from throughout the year to their peers, faculty, and staff.
The day started with three sessions of presentations, followed by a community lunch on the lawn for students, faculty, staff, and guests. Two more sessions happened in the afternoon, with an hour set aside for students to present what they did for their various internships, and an academic awards ceremony.
The day wrapped up with a reception.
Marti Maguire, associate professor of Communications, was impressed with the event this year.
“The strength and variety of the presentations really stood out this year, with 28 separate student-led panels from more than a dozen academic programs,” Maguire said.
Maguire also felt like, without having a firm number, that the turnout was way better than it had been in previous years.
“I saw packed rooms for a number of sessions,” Maguire said. “I’m guessing this will be one of our best years for participation.”
Maguire said her favorite session was where students talked about a project they collaborated on where they created a podcast with Yemeni students for an anthropology class with Dr. Vincent Melomo.
“The depth of their knowledge of the country was so impressive,” she said.
Including people outside of the Peace family was also a high point for Maguire.
“I love to see our community come together on a beautiful day to socialize and talk over all of what they’ve seen so far at Showcase,” Maguire said.
