“When I first arrived at Peace I was just excited to return to academia and complete my bachelor’s degree that I started ten years prior. I had been working in two different fields as a dancer and then as a massage therapist but I knew that I felt like I needed to complete my degree to tie up that loose end if I wanted to pursue a career in any other field.  I was fascinated by my abnormal psychology class to the extent that I switched my major to psychology and from there completed several more electives. This led me to becoming more interested in different career paths using the degree. Eventually that led to a series of graduate school applications and I will be starting an M.A. program in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Wake Forest University this coming May.    When I was still a business major I had the opportunity to take financial accounting and it was far outside the realm of my prior experience. “When I first arrived at Peace, I honestly didn’t know what to expect. I was stepping into something new, and there was a lot of uncertainty about what was ahead of me. At that point, I saw myself as someone just trying to figure things out — unsure, a little nervous, but hopeful that I was making the right decision. One of the biggest challenges I faced was going back to school after experiencing a home fire where I lost everything. I didn’t even have a computer or the basic things I needed to start school. It was overwhelming, and there were moments when I questioned how I would make it through. But that experience taught me resilience. I learned that even when life knocks you down, you can still get back up and keep going. It showed me strength I didn’t even realize I had. When I was on campus trying to get my first set of textbooks, I remember feeling overwhelmed and not really knowing what to do, so I emailed my advisor.
